About Town

These are more photos from Sunday, June 23, 2002.  These were taken en route to the Florence Mall, about three blocks from my condo.  Click here to let me know what you think of the pics (or if there are any problems loading/viewing the pictures).

Magnolia Tree?

I shot this magnificent tree behind Westgate Cleaners on Hoffmeyer Road & West Evans Street. I guess the FedEx, AirBorne Express, and UPS drop boxes are a sign of the times, eh?

Royal Bank in South Carolina

I'm sure you've heard about Royal Bank's merger with Centura Bank, here in the United States. Well, there is a Centura Bank across from the Florence Mall that is now an RBC Centura Bank. What's that? Canucks controlling American finances? Oh my! ;-)

A Florence Landmark

Located at the Florence Mall, Redbone Alley is a unique restaurant with an outdoor-type atmosphere, year-round. Check out the trees, the motorcycle the milk truck, the arcade, or the live performers. This shot was taken before opening for business.

A Close-up

A close-up shot of Redbone Alley. If you are ever in Florence, this restaurant is definitely worth checking out.

More Shops at Florence Mall

The Florence Mall is getting some new shops, both in the main mall, and where New York carpet used to be. I'm surprised that all of the existing sites were demolished, only to put new structures in their places. Its probably a new building code--all of the buildings used a lot of light-weight framing (aka. steel studs). We don't make the studs in Florence, but Nucor has a new division that makes them, called ITech.

New T.J. Maxx

Even on Sunday, workmen are scurrying to finish construction on this new T.J. Maxx store, at the Florence Mall, scheduled to open this month. The City of Florence has already put up a slew of traffic signals in anticipation of the increased traffic this will bring to the Five Points area of Florence (where the store is located).

New Sprint Store

Who says cellular phones aren't BIG business! I guess Sprint has outgrown their kiosk at the Magnolia Mall. This is one of the new shops to be constructed at the corner of David McLeod Boulevard and Evans Street, where New York Carpet used to stand.

Talbots is Expanding

Talbots only came to town about year ago. Now, it is expanding to include Talbots Petites. This store was planted in the parking lot at the Florence Mall, next to Piggly Wiggly. I am amazed to see Talbots anywhere outside of Toronto--they used to be only in the big cities, didn't they?

Piggly Wiggly

I know, this shot is a bit dark, but there are plenty of y'all that haven't seen a Piggly Wiggly store before. Red Bone Alley is just around the corner, on the right, and Talbots is just outside the photo, on the left.

Books-A-Million

Situated between the T.J. Maxx store and Talbots, Books-A-Million is also remodelling. There was no way to get a decent shot of the sign without getting the dumpster. (This is another photo where the bright sky in the background made the subject come out darker than expected. I'll get better . . .)

Check these out!
